FAQs on Varithena®:

What is Varithena®?

Varithena® is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses a medicated foam to treat both the symptoms and the underlying cause of varicose veins. The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance, allowing the physician to treat the targeted area accurately and safely.  Varithena® requires only local anesthesia and is performed in the office in under one hour with minor discomfort and quick recovery time.

How Does Varithena® Work?

During a Varithena® procedure, your doctor will numb the injection site, then administer a small amount of the injectable foam through a catheter or by direct injection into the malfunctioning vein. The foam fills and treats the desired section of the vein. The closed vein is then reabsorbed into the body and the blood supply in that area is naturally rerouted through other, healthier veins.

Does Varithena® Have Side Effects?

Despite some tenderness in the insertion area, patients can usually resume normal activity within 24 hours with little to no pain or other complications after a Varithena® procedure.

How Much Does Varithena® Cost?

Varithena® is one vein procedure that is almost always covered by insurance. Metro Vein Centers accept most insurance providers, including Medicare.
